ONE MILLION DOLLARS IN TUITION ASSISTANCE: $1,025,265 TO 1,036 STUDENTS THROUGH PSAS
The Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Foundation has awarded a total of $1,025,265 in tuition assistance to 1,036 local Catholic school students for the 2004 - 2005 academic year. For the past three years, these awards have been made possible through a special program funded by corporate gifts which help the students benefit from a Catholic education.
Under Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit program (EITC), designed to encourage corporate support for education across the state, businesses and corporations which make a contribution to the diocesan scholarship foundation can then apply for a state tax credit.
Since the EITC program was implemented three years ago, 64 corporations have made donations to the Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Foundation. The gifts have enabled the foundation to award $3,292,991 in tuition assistance to 3,189 students in diocesan schools.
Companies interested in obtaining information on how to participate in these programs may contact Mr. Pappa at the diocesan Development Office at (570) 207-2250.
Please, if you are a corporation who is eligible to participate in this most worthy program, we ask that you do so. Now, with rising property taxes and higher costs of livine, the need for tuition assistance is VITAL for most Catholic families as they struggle to make the choice between an education where prayer and GOD are invited into the building, and affordable education in the public school system, where prayer and outward signs of religion are forbidden.
Catholic Schools are in Danger of Closing EVERYWHERE:
Please, don't turn the other way. Support your local Catholic schools.

We are healed of a suffering only by expressing it to the full."

288 smiling faces full of innocence, trust, and hope
HOPE that we, the grown-ups, would save your schools
before the Last Day
Please know we tried our best
But sometimes even our best efforts, our most fervent prayers
just are not answered
Someday we may understand why
But for now, little ones...
there are some things no one can take away-
your innocence, trust, hope and FAITH
Don't let them slip away
Carry them with you wherever you go
And never forget the days of joy and laughter
at SJB and SMA

St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Pittston and Saint Mary's Grade School in Pittston closed their doors on June 4, 2004- despite our efforts to keep them opened and/or our hopes and pleas with the Diocese of Scranton and Bishop Joseph F. Martino for a merger.
This page is dedicated to our children's future happiness, to the memory of two wonderful, irreplaceable Catholic grade schools, and to everyone who ever made them what they were:
