St. Mary's Family Gathering
The Parents Guild of Saint Mary's School, Avoca held a gathering of our Saint Mary's Family.
The Scott Kryeski Scholarship to Seton Catholic was awarded to Shaylyn Berlew and Alana Donnelly during our Class Night activities on Tuesday, May 25th.
One of St. Mary's eighth grade girls basketball players played first in the 3 point shooting contest and placed second in the foul shooting contest at Seton Catholic - Scott Kryeski Tournamnent in March of this year. Her name is Aubre Mayorowski. Not only due we have students from both schools, SJB and SMA, that excell academically- but we have students who excell in sports. This seems to speak for itself that both SMA & SJB are great schools in this area...
A special Mass for St. Mary's students, family nad friends was held on Friday, June 4th at 10 AM.
St. Mary's Night at the Red Barons Saturday, June 19th.

St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Pittston (1917- June 4,2004) and Saint Mary's Grade School in Avoca, PA (1919 - June 4,2004), closed on June 4, 2004 despite a long battle, which included a lawsuit filed by parents of SJB, to keep them opened.
The loss of this beloved school was a GREAT loss to not only the Catholic community in Avoca, PA, but the the Diocese of Scranton as well. The children are the future of the Catholic Church. We pray that Bishop Joseph Martino will not close any more of our schools while there is still a dollar in the coffers of the Diocese of Scranton.
